Captain America: Civil War (News)

Captain America: Civil War Closing in on $700M Worldwide

Before Captain America: Civil War hit theaters domestically this weekend, the Marvel Phase Three adventure had already gotten off to a strong start at the international box office, taking in $200.4 million in its first weekend overseas. The movie opened in North America with a strong $181.7 million, and after another strong international weekend with $220 million, the movie is sitting at $678.4 million worldwide, as it's expected to cross $700 million very soon, perhaps as early as tomorrow. The movie's international cumulative total to date is at $496.6 million, including an impressive opening in China this weekend.

Captain America: Civil War has been putting up big numbers all around the world, including Korea ($53.9M), the UK ($40.4M), Mexico ($34.3M), Brazil ($25.2M), Australia ($17.9M), Japan ($17M), France ($16.6M), Germany ($14.1M) and Taiwan ($13M). The movie already has the sixth-highest global total in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($714.4 million), Guardians of the Galaxy ($773.3 million), Iron Man 3 ($1.2 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion) and The Avengers ($1.5 billion). We'll have to wait and see if it can surpass all of these movies to be the studio's biggest movie of all time.

Captain America: Civil War will kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Three, which will be followed by Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016). Next up will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5, 2017), followed by Spider-Man (July 7, 2017), Thor: Ragnarok (November 3, 2017), Black Panther (February 16, 2018), Avengers: Infinity War Part I (May 4, 2018), Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6, 2018), Captain Marvel (March 8, 2019) and Avengers: Infinity War - Part II (May 3, 2019). The studio recently pushed Inhumans out of its July 12, 2019 release date, which was originally slated to be the last Phase Three movie, but the project doesn't have a new release date at this time.
