Captain America: Civil War Grabs $200M in Overseas Box Office Debut
While fans in North America still have to wait five more days for Captain America: Civil War to hit theaters, the first Marvel Phase Three movie got off to an impressive start with its international box office debut. This highly-anticipated superhero adventure took in an impressive $200.2 million in 37 international markets this weekend, setting the stage for a massive debut in the U.S. Early box office tracking data suggests that Captain America: Civil War could take in anywhere between $175 million and $200 million in its opening weekend starting May 6.
Deadline reports that Captain America: Civil War's $200.2 million international debut is just under the $202 million earned last summer by Avengers: Age of Ultron, which went on to take in $459 million domestically and a record-breaking $946.4 million internationally, the highest ever for a superhero movie, for a worldwide total of $1.4 billion. This weekend's debut represented 63% of its international markets, with the movie opening in China, Russia, Italy and Argentina next week.
