Way back in 2012 after Marvel completed Phase 1 and released The Avengers, fans waited in their seats to see what kind of scene would be featured post credits. The scene shown certainly and very quickly built up a ton of excitement about what we could all expect. Thanos’ introduction was simple but just what fans were hoping for,
It is currently unclear if we will see Thanos again before Avengers: Infinity War, but he could pop up in Thor: Ragnarok if Marvel wanted an early introduction. That does not seem to be in the cards as it sounds like Part 1 of Infinity War could be a mini Thanos movie. In a new interview with ScreenCrush, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely say the film will be devoted to introducing us to the otherwise mysterious character.
Markus: We don’t get an element of surprise. Everyone knows he’s coming, and yet he hasn’t had terribly many scenes that have illuminated very much about him. You can count on a lot of scenes where we illuminate a lot about him very early.
McFeely: We still have to take it on a character-by-character basis. The challenge is hanging on to character as motivation when you blow the canvas up to the entire universe. And not to make it seem like all your people look like tiny little video game characters running around.
Markus: It’s just trying to balance character moments in the middle of big, crazy Jim Starlin [creator of the “Infinity Gauntlet” comic series] action.
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is set to be released on May 4th
2018
