Marvel TV - Cloak & Dagger (News)

Marvel has announced that they've cast the lead roles in their upcoming new series Cloak and Dagger. Actor Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of, Run All Night) has been cast in the role of Tyrone Johnson, a.k.a. Cloak, and former Disney Channel star Olivia Holt (I Didn’t Do It) will play Tandy Bowen, a.k.a. Dagger.

The series will focus on Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, the eponymous Cloak and Dagger, as they learn to use their newly-acquired super powers while also falling in love with each other. Cloak is capable of teleportation through the “dimension of darkness” but can also leave foes stranded in the other world as well. Dagger has the ability to create light daggers with her mind, which she can control as well. Her daggers are capable of both draining life from their targets, or healing them.
The series is scheduled to debut on the Freeform Channel in Winter 2018. Hopefully, they end up giving fans something really cool.

Black Panther (News)

Marvel Studios just sent out a press release stating that production is underway, and reading the cast list for this thing has me grinning bigger and bigger with every name. This cast is so stacked, it's ridiculous. Read the full press release below, which includes what I believe is the first official synopsis of the film:
BURBANK, CALIF. (January 26, 2017)—Marvel Studios announced today that production has begun on “Black Panther,” starring Chadwick Boseman (“Captain America: Civil War,”  “Get on Up”), Michael B. Jordan (“Creed,” “Fruitvale Station”), Academy Award® winner Lupita Nyong’o (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “12 Years a Slave”), Danai Gurira (“The Walking Dead,” upcoming “All Eyez on Me”), Martin Freeman (“Hobbit” trilogy, “Sherlock”), Daniel Kaluuya (upcoming “Get Out,” “Sicario”),  with Academy Award® nominee Angela Bassett (“American Horror Story,” “London Has Fallen”), with Academy Award® winner Forest Whitaker (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Lee Daniels’ “The Butler”), and Andy Serkis (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”).
Additional cast members include Letitia Wright (“Urban Hymn,” “Glasgow Girls”), Winston Duke (“Person of Interest, “Modern Family”), Florence Kasumba (“Captain America: Civil War,” “Emerald City”), Sterling K. Brown (“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”) and John Kani (“Captain America: Civil War,” “Coriolanus”).
Ryan Coogler (“Creed,” “Fruitvale Station”) directs Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole (“The People v. O.J. Simpson:  American Crime Story”).  The film, which opens in U.S. theaters on February 16, 2018, will be shot in Atlanta and South Korea.
“Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Black Panther is set to be released on February 16th 2018

Marvel TV - Iron Fist (News)

We’re only a few months away from the latest Netflix/Marvel installment. Iron Fist comes out on March 17th and will feature Finn Jones as Danny Rand. A boy who then becomes a living weapon – his show will rely heavily on martial arts and ancient teachings.

Listed below are the recently released names of 11 of the 13 episodes. Behold!

Episode 1, Snow Gives Way directed by John Dahl
Episode 2, Shadow Hawk Takes Flight directed by John Dahl
Episode 3, Rolling Thunder Cannon Punch directed by Tom Shankland
Episode 4, Eight Diagram Dragon Palm directed by unknown
Episode 5, Under Leaf Pluck Lotus directed by Uta Briesewitz
Episode 6, Immortal Emerges From Cave directed by unknown.
Episode 7, Felling With Tree Routes directed by Farren Blackburn (18 for strong bloody violence)
Episode 8, The Blessing Of Many Fractures directed by Kevin Tancharoen
Episode 9, The Mistress Of All Agonies directed by Jet Wilkinson
Episode 10, unknown
Episode 11, Lead Horse Back To Stable directed by Deborah Chow (12 for mild violence)
Episode 12, unknown
Episode 13, Dragon Plays With Fire directed by Stephen Surjik

In case you need to catch up on your martial arts knowledge, many of the episode titles are Shaolin Kung Fu sequences. Shaolin Kung Fu is one of the oldest institutionalized styles of Chinese martial arts and considering Danny Rand is raised by martial artists, this is a clever way to keep within the theme. Many of the other titles seem to be related to other martial arts moves as well.

Iron Fist will stream exclusively on Netflix on March 17th 2017

Avengers: Infinity War (News)

Filming for both Avengers: Infinity War films are currently underway! Comicbook reports that filming has started, and while we don't know exactly how that all works, it must mean there will be some crossover between the two films. Obviously, the second film will be a continuation of the first, but I'm wondering if there will be events that happen simultaneously in both films which is why they're being filmed at the same time?

More than likely each major actor has a limited timeframe and will need to shoot their scenes for both films at the same time. That makes the most sense considering the plethora of talent in tow for the film!

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo posted a photo from the first day of filming on their Facebook page Monday morning. The pic below, which features a whole lot of trailers, basically highlights what we know about the film so far: that it will feature a whole lot of Marvel superheroes. Confirmed characters for the film include Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Hulk, The Vision, Scarlet Witch, Bucky Barnes, Captain Marvel, the Guardians of the Galaxy (including Nebula) and Thanos. According to Variety, Peter Dinklage is in early talks to play a "key role" in the films.

Black Panther (Set Photos)

A rainy day in Atlanta provided us with our first look at the ongoing production of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther and among the cast members caught on set was Martin Freeman. Freeman portrayed Everett Ross, the Deputy Task Force Commander of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre in Captain America: Civil War.

While it doesn’t appear the actors were filming at the time of the pictures, Freeman was seen outside of what looks to be one of many Resurgens buildings in the Atlanta area. The film’s star, Chadwick Boseman, was also there along with actresses Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o, who are playing members of the Dora Milaje, the personal bodyguards of the Wakandan king.

The actors were reportedly filming a scene involving a meeting at the United Nations which may very well tie into the fact that T’Challa is harboring wanted criminals in Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. Freeman’s appearance in the film, while not surprising given his characters comic book history, indicates that the stinger from Captain America: Civil War may tie into the Black Panther film.

Black Panther (News)

'Black Panther' Has Begun Filming in Atlanta, Will Feature 90's Flashback

The new Black Panther film will feature T'Challa's time in America in the 1990s. In the comics, Prince T'Challa was educated in America and went under the alias Luke Charles in his time there. CBM writes that Marvel has obtained permission from AC Transit public transportation agency in Oakland, California to use their '90s logo in a flashback for the film. This essentially means T'Challa is getting on a bus at some point in this film!

These 90’s flashbacks give some credence to our speculation that at least part of the film would take place in the past, setting up the main conflict between T’Challa and Erik Killmonger. While these shots of the young T’Challa in high school will almost certainly not include Killmonger, it’s good to see that we will continue to get some more historical context for the MCU.

Marvel News

Stan Lee has been an institution in American comics for longer than just about anyone else. He's in his 90s now, so he won't be hitting the convention circuit as hard as he used to, but he's a natural born creator, and I don't think he's slowing down on that front any time soon. (Plus, it seems all but certain that he'll continue to appear in cameos in Marvel movies for as long as he lives.) I know he has his detractors, and his specific role in the creation of some of Marvel's greatest heroes is probably a bit shakier than he'd like (you've gotta props to Jack Kirby where they're due), but there's no denying Lee's impact on the comics industry and how it's spread to mainstream pop culture in a huge way over the past seventeen years.

Marvel has released a video of Lee commemorating his 75th anniversary (!) with the company, and it features the figurehead fondly reflecting on getting a job with them for the first time.

Avengers: Infinity War (News)

According to Variety, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is in talks with Marvel Studios to appear in Avengers: Infinity War and it’s sequel, which are set to begin filming back to back on January 23rd.

Though Marvel Studios has not commented on the role, it is my first thought that Dinklage could be filling the role of Pip the Troll, a teleporting alien known for his debaucherous ways but, more importantly, his connections to Thanos and Adam Warlock in the Infinity stories! If this is indeed Pip, Avengers: Infinity War looks to be opening up the catalogue of crazy, Cosmic characters. As mentioned, Pip is frequently seen with Adam Warlock, so we should keep our eyes peeled for more news of other potential cast additions over the next few weeks to see who else may join.

There's not much known about her character, but EW reports that her first name is Alexandra.

With all these images being released, I imagine we'll be treated with some new information on the series soon, maybe even a trailer!

Doctor Strange (News)

While the UK release date of Doctor Strange on Blu-Ray was announced recently, fans in the USA didn’t know when the mage of Marvel was coming to retail shelves. That is until now. Best Buy has put out details on the steel book version. The good news is that it will be available even earlier than the movie is coming out in Britain, with it dropping into US stores on February 28th. That’s less than eight weeks away.

For those new to the steel books, they are a premium version of Blu-Rays that Marvel does for all their films. The case is made of stronger material and the cover art is variant for the steel box release. In the case of Doctor Strange the art features the Eye of Agamatto and hints of Strange’s travel through multiple dimensions. For those who loved the 3D experience in the theater, the Blu-Ray will come in both a 3D and regular format. Check out this mystical bad boy:
